The dike association has the task of protecting properties in the association area from storm surges . To this end, he maintains the dikes in the association area.

Most of the dyke sections are grazed by sheep, which permanently ensures a short, closed and firm sward, which is important for dyke safety. The Krummhörn dyke farm maintains several dyke sheep farms . The dyke sheep farm "Knock" covers around 10 kilometers of dyke from Emden Hafen to Knockster Bucht, the dyke sheep farm "Dyksterhus" covers around 11 kilometers of dyke from Knockster Bucht to Upleward , and the dike sheep farm "Leeshaus" covers around 13 kilometers of dyke from Upleward to Hauen as well as the second line of dykes at Greetsiel and around 8.5 kilometers of dyke from Hauen to Greetsiel.

Association structure

The association is represented by a committee that is elected by the association members. The committee consists of 15 members and 15 representatives. For its part, it elects a board of five members.

Members of the association are all landowners and leaseholders of the properties located in the association area.

Others

The Krummhörn dike has been the owner of the Pilsum lighthouse since 1997 , which is located on the main dike northwest of Pilsum .
