The dike Krummhörn Eight is an association founded on March 1, 1963 Deichverband headquartered in the district Pewsum the municipality Krummhörn .
Association area
The Deichverband is responsible for an area of around 48,000 hectares in the city of Emden and the district of Aurich in East Frisia . This protected area, which includes all plots of land under protection of the main dykes up to a height of +5.00 m above sea level including the higher ground elevations within this area, extends over the municipalities of Krummhörn, Hinte , Werdenum , Upgant-Schott , Rechtsupweg , Marienhafe as well as parts of the cities of Emden, Aurich and Norden and parts of the communities Leezdorf , Südbrookmerland and Ihlow .
The main dyke line in the area of responsibility of the Krummhörn dyke is 50.7 kilometers long. It extends from the general plan kilometer 115.8 on the east side of the Borssumer Siel to the general plan kilometer 166.5 in the north of the Störtebeckerdeich near Neuwesteel an der Leybucht . In addition, there is a second dike line at Greetsiel in the area of the Leybuchthörn, Greetsiel and the Leybuchtpolders .
The association area of the Deichacht Krummhörn borders in the east on the association area of the Moormerländer Deichacht and in the north on the association area of the Deichacht Norden .
tasks
The dike association has the task of protecting properties in the association area from storm surges . To this end, he maintains the dikes in the association area.
Most of the dyke sections are grazed by sheep, which permanently ensures a short, closed and firm sward, which is important for dyke safety. The Krummhörn dyke farm maintains several dyke sheep farms . The dyke sheep farm "Knock" covers around 10 kilometers of dyke from Emden Hafen to Knockster Bucht, the dyke sheep farm "Dyksterhus" covers around 11 kilometers of dyke from Knockster Bucht to Upleward , and the dike sheep farm "Leeshaus" covers around 13 kilometers of dyke from Upleward to Hauen as well as the second line of dykes at Greetsiel and around 8.5 kilometers of dyke from Hauen to Greetsiel.
Association structure
The association is represented by a committee that is elected by the association members. The committee consists of 15 members and 15 representatives. For its part, it elects a board of five members.
Members of the association are all landowners and leaseholders of the properties located in the association area.
Others
The Krummhörn dike has been the owner of the Pilsum lighthouse since 1997 , which is located on the main dike northwest of Pilsum .
