The Moormerländer Deichacht is a dyke association based in the Oldersum district of the Moormerland community .

Association area

The Deichverband is responsible for an area of around 36,000 hectares in East Frisia . The protected area includes all properties protected by the right Ems dike and the right Leda dike in the association area up to a height of +5.00 m above sea level including the higher ground elevations within this area. It extends over the communities Moormerland and Neukamperfehn , parts of the communities Ihlow , Großefehn and Hesel as well as parts of the cities Emden , Leer and Aurich .

The main dike line in the association area is 25.3 kilometers long. It extends from the general plan kilometer 90.5 at the Leer sea lock to the general plan kilometer 115.8 on the east side of the Borssumer Siel.

The association area of the Moormerländer Deichacht borders in the south with the association area of the Leda-Jümme Association and in the west with the association area of the Deichacht Krummhörn .

tasks

The dyke association has the task of protecting properties in the association area from storm surges and external floods . To this end, he maintains the dikes in the association area .

The dikes are mostly grazed by sheep for maintenance. Nine part-time and one full-time shepherd are responsible for this.

Association structure

The association is represented by a 16-member committee. The committee for its part elects a board of five members.

Members of the association are all landowners and leaseholders of the properties located in the association area.
