The Delaware Township is a township in Northumberland County and one of four townships with that name in Pennsylvania , United States . At the time of the 2010 United States Census , the Delaware Township had 4,489 residents, compared to 4,341 in 2000.

The Delaware Township forms the northwest corner of Northumberland County. According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of ​​81.5 km 2 , of which 78.8 km 2 are land and 2.7 km 2 (= 3.21%) are water.

It borders in the north on Lycoming County with Muncy Creek Township , in the east on Lewis Township , in the south the Turbot Township , in the southwest on Watsontown . On the west bank of the West Branch Susquehanna River are the White Deer Township and the Gregg Township in Union County and the Brady Township in Lycoming County . The township also encloses the Borough of McEwensville .

The Pennsylvania Route 54 runs from the northwest corner of the Township to the southeast and leaves the Township just east of the exit 5 of Interstate 180 ; this runs from north to south of Warrior Run just west of the border with Lewis Township, but then takes a more south-westerly direction. The Pennsylvania Route 405 runs parallel to the river from north to south. The Pennsylvania Route 44 crosses at Dewart the river, then runs together with the Route 405 south to Watsontown and then turns east to about McEwensville to Turbotville to lead. The village of Springtown is a street village east of Dewart. Delaware Run is at the intersection of Route 54 and Quadrangle Road 1001.

The township is drained by the Delaware Run , the Dry Run and the Spring Run , which flow into the West Branch Susquehanna River within a few hundred meters above Watsontown, and the Warrior Run , which flows into the river below Watsontown.

Demographics

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Delaware Township was inhabited by 4,341 people. The population density was 55.1 people per km 2 . There were 1765 housing units, an average of 22.4 per km 2 . The population in Delaware Township was 98.80% White , 0.28% Black or African American , 0.18% Native American , 0.23% Asian , 0.02% Pacific Islander , 0.14% said belonging to other races and 0.35% named two or more races. 0.53% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The residents of Delaware townships were distributed among 1,678 households out of which 31.6% were living in children under the age of 18. 63.1% of households were married, 7.1% had a female head of the household without a husband and 26.0% were not families. 21.5% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 9.8% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 2.98.

The population was divided into 24.5% minors, 7.0% 18–24 year olds, 29.1% 25–44 year olds, 25.3% 45–64 year olds and 14.2% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 women there were 96.9 men. For every 100 women over the age of 18, there were 94.7 men.

The median household income in Delaware Township was 39,219 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 45,950 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 30,138 compared with $ 21,417 for women. The per capita income was $ 17,442. 10.7% of the population and 7.0% of families had an income below the poverty line , including 12.2% of minors and 16.1% of those aged 65 and over.
