Demandware (now Salesforce Commerce Cloud ) was an American software provider for e-commerce shop systems. The company developed and sold ecommerce software for online retailers. In addition to the headquarters in the USA, there were further branches in France and Germany . The Demandware shop software was a software-as-a-service solution. The necessary hardware resources were made available by Demandware so that customers only had to deal with the further development and adaptation of their shop.

Demandware has been owned by Salesforce since the end of 2016 . The locations initially existed, and further development and support were still the responsibility of the same teams. As part of the takeover by Salesforce, the shop system was renamed Salesforce Commerce Cloud .

history

The company was founded in 2004 by Stephan Schambach , the co-founder of Intershop Communications .

Demandware had been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since March 15, 2012 . With the IPO, a total of 88 million US dollars in capital could be raised. Demandware was valued at approximately $ 448 million. The share price at launch was $ 16. In September 2015 the share reached its highest level to date at EUR 68.87. In June 2016, Salesforce.com announced that it would buy Demandware at $ 75 per share.

After the successful takeover, the company was renamed and incorporated into Salesforce's cloud services. Demandware's products and services continued under the Salesforce Commerce Cloud brand .

Locations

Demandware had eleven locations worldwide in 2015 . The head office was in North America in Burlington / USA , in Europe there were locations in Lyngby / Denmark , Paris / France , Jena / Germany , Munich / Germany, Amsterdam / Netherlands , London / Great Britain . In 2012 a branch in Asia was opened in Shanghai / China . Demandware employs around 550 people at these locations.

product

Demandware (now Commerce Cloud ) was a software as a service solution. Shop operators therefore did not have to provide their own hardware, but instead obtained the required computing power from Demandware. This should enable the necessary computing power to be scaled as required, as well as high availability and speed for every online shop. The entire architecture of the shop system was divided into several levels. Buyers in online shops used the so-called "Production System" for shopping. This level of the architecture was designed for high availability and performance and thus represented the front end of the shop architecture. The production system was connected to the "staging system" via web services; this level was the test environment for the system and user tests. Marketing and content development staff worked at this level. New developments and changes in functionalities were transferred from staging to the production system. As a rule, these two systems had the same level of development. The lowest level was the "Development System" and the "Sandboxes". At this level new functions have been developed.

Users

More than 308 customers worldwide used Demandware to sell various types of products in over 1399 online shops.
