Demeton-O is a chemical compound from the group of thiophosphoric acid esters .

Extraction and presentation

Demeton-O can be obtained by reacting 2-hydroxyethylethyl sulfide with diethyl phosphorochloride thioate in toluene in the presence of anhydrous sodium carbonate and metallic copper . Isomerization produces about a 65:35 mixture of Demeton-S and Demeton-O, the mixture of the two compounds being referred to as Demeton.

properties

Demeton-O is a colorless to yellowish liquid that is sparingly soluble in water. The technical product has an unpleasant odor of mercaptan .

use

Demeton-O is used as a mixture with Demeton-S as an insecticide and acaricide against mites, aphids and insects such as the whitefly , cicadas , thrips and leaf miners .

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, no pesticides with this active ingredient are permitted.
