Dennis Fenton (born November 20, 1888 in Ventry , Ireland , † March 29, 1954 in San Diego ) was an American sports marksman .
successes
Dennis Fenton took part in the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 and in Paris in 1924 . In Antwerp he missed a top position with the free rifle in the individual competition, while he was Olympic champion in the team competition together with Morris Fisher , Willis Lee , Carl Osburn and Lloyd Spooner . With the army rifle in the prone position over 600 m, he won the gold medal with the team that, in addition to Lee and Spooner, also included Oliver Schriver and Joseph Jackson . With the small- bore rifle, he secured his third Olympic victory with the team consisting of Willis Lee, Lawrence Nuesslein , Arthur Rothrock , Oliver Schriver and Fenton. He also won a medal in the individual with bronze. In 1924 in Paris he only entered the rifle discipline again in the prone position over 600 m, but remained there without a medal. In the running deer discipline he reached twelfth place in single shots and 24th in double shots. In the team competitions he was fifth in a double shot, while he won another bronze medal in a single shot together with John Boles , Raymond Coulter and Walter Stokes .
Fenton emigrated to the United States in 1906. He worked briefly in a leather factory in Boston before enrolling in the US Army in 1908 . After a lengthy stationing in the Philippines and a short one in China , he was stationed in the States during World War I , where he trained recruits. In 1918 he became a citizen of the United States . On October 31, 1937, Fenton retired from active service with the rank of Master Sergeant .
