Dennis Rasmussen (born July 3, 1990 in Västerås ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who was last under contract with HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) until June 2020 and played there on the position of the center .

Career

Rasmussen went through the youth department of the club in his hometown, VIK Västerås HK . There he played up to the U20 juniors in the J20 SuperElit , before he made the jump into the first team. For this he made his professional debut in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan in the 2008/09 season . Shortly before his 21st birthday, the striker left his home club in the summer of 2011 and moved within Sweden to the first division club Växjö Lakers , for whom he was in the top division for the next three seasons until the summer of 2014 .

The striker had meanwhile also caught the attention of the National Hockey League franchises , and so in June 2014 the Chicago Blackhawks secured the services of undrafted Sweden for a year. They first used him in the American Hockey League , where he played for their farm team Rockford IceHogs . In summer 2015 they extended his contract by one year after convincing performance. During the 2015/16 season , the striker made his debut for Chicago in the NHL and made his way into the squad in the second half of the season. Again, the Blackhawks extended the expiring contract until the summer of 2017. With the start of the 2016/17 season , he was still part of Chicago's NHL squad.

After the 2016/17 season, Rasmussen did not receive a further contract in Chicago, so he joined the Anaheim Ducks as a free agent in July 2017 . There, however, the attacker was no longer regularly used in the NHL, so that an agreement was reached in February 2018 to terminate his contract and he then returned to his home country to the Växjö Lakers. With the Lakers he won the Swedish championship for the first time in his career at the end of the season . After this success he moved to the Continental Hockey League for HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk , where he was active for two seasons.

International

For his home country Rasmussen played in the junior division at the U20 Junior World Championship 2010 and won the bronze medal with the team there. He did the same four years later in the senior division at the 2014 World Cup in the Belarusian capital Minsk .
