Dennis Skotak

Dennis "Dennie" Skotak (born February 15, 1943 in Detroit ) is an American film technician who specializes in visual effects .

Life

Skotak began his career in the early 1980s and made his debut in film in 1977 as a sound engineer and photographer at the B-Movie - Horror Curse of the Demon . From the early 1980s he specialized in visual effects . Early on, developed a collaboration with James Cameron , with whom he first time at Sador - ruler in space worked, and in the science fiction film as an art director worked.

In 1990 he won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for Abyss . For Batman's return he was nominated for another Oscar in 1993.

Skotak was married to Dorothy Fontana , a screenwriter , from October 17, 1981 until her death on December 2, 2019 . His brother Robert is also active in the film industry as a VFX Supervisor and has been awarded two Oscars.
