The Chicoana Department is located in the center of the Salta Province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 23 administrative units .

It is bordered to the north by the departments of Rosario de Lerma and Cerrillos , to the east by the department of Capital , to the south by the department of La Viña and to the west by the departments of San Carlos and Cachi .

The capital of the department is the Chicoana of the same name .

economy

The main crops in agriculture are tobacco of the Virginia and Criollo varieties, beans, corn, pumpkin and peppers, peas, peppers, apples, lemon, peach and plum. The livestock industry raises cattle, sheep and goats. In forestry one can find the bay tree, the carob tree and the walnut tree.
