The Chicoana Department is located in the center of the Salta Province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 23 administrative units .

It is bordered to the north by the departments of Rosario de Lerma and Cerrillos , to the east by the department of Capital , to the south by the department of La Viña and to the west by the departments of San Carlos and Cachi .

The capital of the department is the Chicoana of the same name .
