The department of Cafayate is located in the south of the province of Salta in northwestern Argentina and is one of 23 administrative units in the province.
It is bordered to the north by the departments of San Carlos and La Viña , to the east by the department of Guachipas and to the east and south by the provinces of Tucumán and Catamarca .
The capital of the department is the eponymous Cafayate .

The only municipality in the department of Cafayate is the eponymous Cafayate , which is classified as a second category municipality. Other settlements are Tolombón and Yacochuya .
geography
In Cafayate Department the rivers unite Río Calchaquí and Río Santa María to Río de las Conchas which flows to the north and into the reservoir Embalse de Cabra Corral opens.
tourism
