The Molinos department is located in the southwest of the Salta Province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 23 administrative units .

It is bordered to the north by the department of Cachi , to the east and south by the department of San Carlos (Salta) and to the west by the department of Los Andes and the province of Catamarca .

The capital of the department is the eponymous Molinos .

geography

The Molinos department is located in the center of the Calchaquí Valley . The Río Calchaquí flows through the department from north to south. The few fertile zones are in the valleys of the Río Calchaquí, Brealito, Luracatao, Colomé, Tacuil, Amaicha, de las Barrancas, Compuel and Pucará.

climate

The annual average temperature is 14.8 degrees Celsius. In December it rises to an average of 18.1 degrees Celsius and drops to an average of 9.4 degrees Celsius in July.

economy

The livestock industry is limited to goat husbandry. Agriculture focuses on the cultivation of high-quality highland wines (Colomé, Tacuil) as well as oats, peppers, beans, onions, corn, wheat and vegetables. The department's mineral resources include lead, zinc, silver and magnesium.
