The Rosario de la Frontera department is located in the south of the Salta province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 23 administrative units .

It borders the Metán Department to the north, the Santiago del Estero Province to the east, the Tucumán Province and the La Candelaria Department to the south, and the Guachipas Department to the west .

The capital of the department is the Rosario de la Frontera of the same name .
