The Guachipas Department is located in the south of the Salta Province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 23 administrative units .
It borders the La Viña department to the west and north, the Metán and Rosario de la Frontera departments to the east, and the La Candelaria and Cafayate departments and the Tucumán province to the south .
The capital of the department is Guachipas of the same name .
