action

Sophie Brand, a single mother of two children after the sudden death of her husband, is just keeping her head above water with two jobs. A court hearing about her unpaid parking ticket is a chore for her. Even before the trial, she disputes a man's handicapped parking space and shows her deceased grandfather's card. But the dizziness is exposed. It's just stupid that the man happens to be the judge in their criminal case. This she was sentenced to 300 hours of community service in a rehabilitation home. What she does not know: there she should look after Georg, the judge's brother. He has been paraplegic since a self-inflicted car accident . So far he has refused any therapy and pissed off everyone who wanted to help him. The former triathlete is bitter and doesn't let anyone get near him. Not even his girlfriend, whom he blames for the accident. His brother now has the hope that Sophie, with her energetic and sometimes a bit chaotic manner, will succeed in bringing Georg "back into life".

Sophie is on the verge of failure, because Georg is acting like a puke towards her too . Things are going much better in private. Her boss Jacques from the noble restaurant has an eye on her and the two start a relationship. At some point Georg assumes that she has embezzled money. Full of anger, she yells at him and immediately leaves the home with the announcement that she will not come back. So she finally manages to get to him. Because for the first time Georg does not feel perceived as a “disabled person”. He wants Sophie to come back. He lets a nurse tell her this, but Sophie only wants to accept the apology if he comes to her and apologizes personally. He accepts this challenge, completely unexpected for everyone, and leaves the home for the first time alone in his wheelchair. Sophie is amazed when she sees the sullen "Klops" standing in front of her apartment. The ice between them is broken and Georg begins to open up.

When Sophie's son Linus comes to see Georg once, the two of them run a race that Georg wins. Spurred on by this competition, he starts training again. A setback occurs when a fellow patient, with whom Sophie has also befriended, dies in the hospice . In order not to leave Georg alone in this situation, Sophie takes him on a weekend trip with Jacques, which is quite profitable. Georg befriends the two children, he also gets on well with Jacques, although he had imagined the trip a little differently and originally wanted to be alone with Sophie.

Sophie encourages Georg to take part in the Hamburg Marathon and supports him in training. Finally, Georg opens up completely and confesses to Sophie that he was responsible for the serious accident himself because he had taken steroids in advance of a competition , which impaired his perception. So he can forgive his girlfriend, but separates from her. But he falls in love with Sophie and the two spend the night together. When Jacques finds out about this, he gives Sophie a choice and she chooses Jacques. Georg is now preparing himself for the marathon and Sophie for her move to Jacques. On the drive to Jacques apartment, he and Sophie argue and when Jacques is upset about the traffic jam caused by the marathon, Sophie changes her mind. She gets out of the car and waits on the home straight for Georg, who, however, is overtaken shortly before the finish. Sophie hugs him and the two become a couple.

reception

Heike Hupertz discussed the film for the Frankfurter Allgemeine and initially criticized the predictable plot. However, she then stated the good game of the two main actors and comes to a positive conclusion:

“The real thing here is different. The puke, at the beginning of a dialogue-driven almost classic screwball comedy , which is not afraid of rough language, develops into a true love story. The first kiss between Szyszkowitz and Wiesnekker looks tender and erotic at the same time, the physical attraction between the two is palpable, especially towards the end of the film. Sensual hints, looks, gestures, movements - the interplay between the two main actors is outstanding. It is effectively supported by the proximity of the camera ( Egon Werdin ) and the immediacy of the director ( Tomy Wigand ). A love between a man in a wheelchair and a survivor. Sorrow can't be the last word. It's not for cynics. But for all those who like to believe that the most sustainable optimism grows out of pessimism. "

- Heike Hupertz : Frankfurter Allgemeine

Also Rainer Tittelbach praised the film:

“In Der Kotzbrocken, the strong physique of the main actors meets the great 'actionism' of the plot. The speed of the staging makes multiple sense - dramaturgically, perceptually psychologically, but also narrative: the story is primarily about overcoming a massive life crisis, about self-determined liberation from lethargy and self-pity with the help of energy, movement and an individual hand -Bikes. The will moves mountains. Love seems to be a nice side effect. Overcoming the crisis finds a sensual translation, becomes a picture, so to speak. This makes the somewhat naive - albeit beneficial - message all the easier to cope with. And these two deserve a happy ending anyway. "

Ulrich Feld comes to a similar conclusion in the Frankfurter Neue Presse . He praises the rapid start, while he describes the turn as implausible and the end poor. However, he also praises the play of the main actors, especially that of Roeland Wiesnekker as George.

“ Despite its weaknesses, the puke varies the subject very cleverly from Pretty Best Friends . So it is not perfect, but still very worth seeing. "

- Ulrich Feld : Frankfurter Neue Presse
