Deric Dickens

Deric Dickens (born November 3, 1973 ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( drums , percussion ).

Dickens grew up in southern Georgia , initially teaching the Drum and Buggle Corps and playing as the first timpani in local orchestras. In the following years he became a professional jazz musician. He played u. a. with Donald Ray Brown , Jerry Coker , Joe Fiedler , Daniel Carter , Michael Bates , Kirk Knuffke and Jeff Lederer and toured with Robinella and JaLaLa ( Janis Siegel , Laurel Massé , Lauren Kinhan ). He also directs the Speed ​​Date, Rocket # 9, The Dickens Campaign and Left Bomb Bay formations ; He is also co-leader of the bands Dix Out, Team Players, Arabic for Beginners and Zero Point . In 2011 he recorded his debut album Speed ​​Date (Mole Tree Music) with musicians such as Kirk Knuffke, Jeremy Udden , Jeff Lederer and Matt Wilson . With the saxophonist Jarrett Gilgore , Dickens released the joint album Words Are Not Enough - Streams (Mole-Tree Music) in 2015 , on which trumpeter Jaimie Branch had also contributed; inspired by Jimmy Lyons ' duo recordings with Andrew Cyrille , the production Pallaksch was created with Gilgore in the same year ! . With the saxophonist Ben Cohen and the bassist Ross Gallagher, he formed the Trio Viriditas .
