Desmedipham is a chemical compound from the group of phenylcarbamates and bis carbamate .

Extraction and presentation

Desmedipham can be obtained by reacting ethyl chloroformate and m- aminophenol with phenyl isocyanate .

Desmedipham was founded in 1970 by Schering AG (later Aventis , now Bayer CropScience ) as a selective, systemic post-emergence - Herbicide introduced. It is mainly used in beet cultivation (especially against bent back amaranth / Amaranthus retroflexus ) and in strawberry crops against weeds, e.g. T. in combination with Phenmedipham .

Desmedipham inhibits the D1 protein on photosystem II .

Admission

In the European Union, with effect from March 1, 2005, Desmedipham was added to the list of permissible active ingredients in pesticides for use as a herbicide .

Desmedipham is approved as an active ingredient in crop protection products in Germany, Austria and Switzerland under the trade names Betanal and Betamax. The approvals of plant protection products with Desmedipham in the EU ended on January 1, 2020. The sales and use-by deadlines of July 1, 2020 apply.
