Detlef Krause (born September 13, 1952 in Engelbostel near Hanover) is a German missionary , evangelical theologian , pastor of the Württemberg regional church and was director of the Liebenzeller Mission from 2003 to 2017 .

Live and act

Krause grew up with his two older brothers in Engelbostel. His father from Silesia and his mother from Pomerania moved to Hanover as refugees. After his parents divorced, he first came to a children's home in Hanover and, at the age of ten, to foster parents in Völksen . After completing secondary school, an apprenticeship as a gardener in Hameln and obtaining the technical college entrance qualification , he worked for two years as a development worker in Puno , Peru , through the German Development Service. From 1975 to 1980 he studied theology at the theological seminar of the Liebenzeller Mission . From 1981 he worked as a missionary in Manus (Papua New Guinea), where he married in 1982. Part of his missionary congregation work was the establishment of a parish district as well as the establishment and management of the theological training facility Maria Molnar Bible Training Center . He became division team leader of the Liebenzell Missionaries and adviser to the Evangelical Church of Manus (ECOM). In 1992 he graduated from Biola University , a private Christian university in the US state of California, with an MA in Intercultural Studies . From 1995 onwards, as Mission Director, succeeding Ernst Vatter , he was in charge of foreign work at the headquarters of the Liebenzeller Mission in Bad Liebenzell and, in 2003, succeeded Hanspeter Wolfsberger as its director. He was introduced during the Whitsun Mission Festival, where the bishop of the Württemberg regional church, Gerhard Maier , also awarded him the title of pastor. He held this office until December 2017. From 1995 to 2008 he was a lecturer in missiology at the theological seminar of the Liebenzeller Mission. Until 2017 he was the leader of the Missionsberg congregation there .

Krause promotes a changed understanding of mission . According to him, mission has nothing to do with sectarian expansions on the part of Christians. “Mission means calling people to personal faith in Jesus Christ. And that is also necessary in Germany. What has not changed is that mission always also has a diaconal and social component. Missionaries continued to this day for better living conditions. However, the motive of the actors must remain clear in every engagement, namely the transmission of God's love ”.

Until his retirement in 2017, he was on the board of the Gnadau community association , from 2014 chairman of Hilfe für Brüder , member of the association committee of the Liebenzeller community association , and a sought-after speaker at many conferences and meetings such as Christ's Day or the youth conference for world missions .

In March 2014, Krause was invited to a top-level discussion with Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann on the controversial Baden-Württemberg education plan 2015 , where he and other church representatives such as Steffen Kern , Hartmut Steeb , EKD council member Tabea Dölker, chairman of the main committee of the Baden state synod, Pastor Theo Breisacher, Pastor Gerrit Hohage from the Baden Christ Movement, the then Rector of the Albrecht Bengel House, Rolf Sons , the Director of the Christian Guest Center Schönblick, Martin Scheuermann and the head of the Friedrich Hauß Study Center, Pastor Udo Zansinger for a revision of the current working paper began. He encourages joining the "For Freedom and Self-Determination" Declaration and responding to attacks attempting to curtail Christians on constitutionally guaranteed freedoms.
