Detlev Dormeyer

Detlev Dormeyer (* 5. December 1942 in Leoben ) is a Roman Catholic theologian , biblical scholar and Emeritus Professor of New Testament .

Dormeyer's research focus is on using pragmalinguistic (action-oriented) hermeneutics to highlight the interrelationship between ancient and New Testament literature on the basis of the New Testament genres . His main focus is on the relationship of the Gospels to ancient biography , on the biographical reception of religion in ancient times and the present. He was also decisively involved in the development and scientific foundation of the interactive biblical interpretation as a method for religious instruction.

Scientific career

Dormeyer studied Catholic theology from 1962 to 1969 at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , at the Philosophical-Theological University Sankt Georgen zu Frankfurt, at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster and from 1965 to 1969 German at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität. In 1968, Joachim Gnilka obtained his doctorate in theology from Joachim Gnilka in Münster . (Subject: Mk 13 - Lk 21,5-36 - An exegetical investigation ). In 1969 Dormeyer passed the state examination for a higher subject in Catholic religion and German. In 1972 - also in Münster with Joachim Gnilka - the doctorate to Dr. theol. , on the subject: The tradition and editorial history of the Mark Passion .

In 1972 he was appointed to the Academic Council for "Biblical Studies and Didactics". At the PH Westfalen-Lippe (Münster department), Dormeyer received his habilitation in 1973 in “Catholic theology and its didactics (focus on biblical studies)”; the habilitation thesis is entitled: Religious Experience and Bible (published 1975). In 1977 - also in Münster - he was appointed Apl. Professor. Between 1973 and 1981 he received teaching positions at the PH Kiel, University of Münster, PH Westfalen-Lippe (Bielefeld department) and at the University of Dortmund. In 1980, Dormeyer accepted the call of the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster, as a professor at the "Institute for Teacher Training" of the Catholic-Theological Faculty (FB 2) for "Biblical Studies and Didactics" and finally in 1997 the call of the University of Dortmund (today: Technical University Dortmund ) as professor for " New Testament " of the Faculty of Human Sciences and Theology . During this time he held visiting professorships between 1988 and 1998 at the Universiteit van Stellenbosch, Suid-Africa, at St. Joseph's Theological Institute Cedara, Hilton, South Africa and at the Department of Religion at Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina, USA . From 1974 to 1990 he also worked in teacher training at the Institute for Teacher Training in Essen-Werden. From 2006 to 2008 Detlev Dormeyer was Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences and Theology at the Technical University of Dortmund . He has been retired since 2008.

Students include Dirk Wördemann, Mathis-Christian Holzbach and Christa Georg-Zöller.

Academic honor

In 2003, Detlev Dormeyer and James Charlesworth ( Princeton Theological Seminary ) received the Comenius Medal from the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague .

Dormeyer has lived in Bösensell for over 30 years . He has been a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. since 1962. Wildenstein Freiburg im Breisgau. He also became a member of the KDStV Sauerlandia Münster .
