After ten years, Danny Tunker joined the line-up as guitarist in March 2008, after which Romeijn decided to concentrate completely on singing. A short time later, the drummer Kalksma left the band. Michiel van der Plicht ( God Dethroned , Prostitute Disfigurement ) joined them as session drummer . In 2009 Ferguson and Romeijn wrote new songs for a fourth album. style

On her Facebook profile, the Detonation lists Eucharist , Dismember , Entombed , Iron Maiden , Death , Megadeth , Metallica , Morbid Angel and Pantera as influences. Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia found the band to play melodic death metal in the style of Swedish bands like Dark Tranquility and In Flames . Jan Fleckhaus from Metal Hammer described the music on Emission Phase as modern Thrash Metal, which is melodic and brutal. A red thread can be seen on the album. In addition, the songs are occasionally rocky and psychedelic . In addition, the songs show a "combination of hardness and depth, technical and compositional skills and an unmistakable amount of joy in playing".
