Deutsch Ossig is a deserted area near the town of Görlitz on the Berzdorfer See in eastern Saxony near the border with Poland .
history
In 1347 the oldest Görlitz town book already mentions a pastor from the duczhen ossek .
The place was evacuated in 1988 and had to give way to a brown coal opencast mine to a large extent . Most of the old village was destroyed, including historically valuable buildings and various half-timbered farmhouses . On January 1, 1974, Klein Neundorf became a district of Deutsch Ossig. The village had 110 inhabitants in the 1980s. Klein Neundorf is now part of the city of Görlitz.
On January 1, 1994, the municipality of Deutsch Ossig was incorporated into the city of Görlitz during the district reform .
The old village church was dismantled in the 1980s and rebuilt as a hope church in the Görlitz-Königshufen district using salvaged components . It was consecrated on June 1, 1998.
With the end of the opencast mine and the revitalization of the landscape, it is planned to recreate the old location Deutsch Ossig and to partially incorporate the existing buildings into the new use.
