The German Powerchair Hockey National Team is a selection team from Germany in electric wheelchair hockey (Powerchair Hockey).

history

In 1997, various e-hockey players met for special training sessions with the first coach, Christian Klein. In May 1998 the World Games took place in Utrecht . This first major tournament, with ten teams, was counted as an unofficial world championship. On May 22, 1998, the newly formed German team played their first international match against a selection from Denmark. This 22: 0 means the highest victory ever in a country comparison. In the final, the team lost 3: 6 to the Netherlands. At a 4-country tournament in 2002 they won 3rd place against Finland. Players from the first few hours were Ferdinand Schießl, Roland and Stefan Utz, Henry Acquah (captain), Manuela Rahlf, Görkem Oguz.

In 2004 the first official World Championships took place in Helsinki . With a 0: 4 against the Netherlands, the team became runner-up world champions. This second place could be repeated at the first EM in 2005 . Again the opponent was the Netherlands. This time they lost 2: 7. The Netherlands was also the final destination at the 2008 European Championship , this time with a 1: 7.

At the 2010 World Cup , with Deniz Genc as coach, in Lignano Sabbiadoro , Italy , the German team was able to secure the world title with a 7: 6 after extra time against the Netherlands. With his golden goal in the 5th minute of extra time, Paul Emmering was able to set the winning goal for the German team and inflict the Netherlands their first defeat in their history.

The first setbacks were 4th place at the EM 2012 and 5th place at the 2014 home World Cup . This 5th place had to be fought hard against Switzerland , with a 5: 4. This was followed by a 3rd place at the EM 2016.

With the coach Margot Kainz, since 2015, at the 2018 World Cup , the German team dominated their opponents in the preliminary round. Unbeaten she reached the semi-finals where she was only defeated by the Italian in the penalty shootout . In the game for 3rd place she then lost to the Netherlands in extra time and finished the World Cup in 4th place. With the players Nasim Afrah, David Bauer, Kaan Sisik, Jörg Diehl and goalkeeper Jessica Trommer, the team is facing a promising future.

Germany is currently in 4th place in the world rankings (as of November 22, 2018)
