The Swiss national power chair hockey team is a Swiss elected team in electric wheelchair hockey (power chair hockey).

history

The national team was founded in 2008.

The team played their first official international match on November 11, 2008 against Finland. The game was lost 1:12.

Switzerland took part in the European Championships in 2008 for the first time and finished last with five clear defeats. The first few years were still characterized by very high defeats. At the 2010 World Cup , thanks to a 3-2 win over Australia, they celebrated their first victory and secured seventh place, which they also fought for at the 2012 European Championship by beating Slovenia . After that, the team slowly caught up with the leading nations such as the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Italy. Italy was beaten for the first time at the 2014 World Cup and in the game for 5th place they were very narrowly defeated 4: 5 against reigning world champions Germany. The positive development continued at the EM 2016 . The Swiss beat the strong Finns, but lost to Denmark in the game for 5th place.

With the withdrawal from Japan, Switzerland was given a starting place at the 2018 World Cup . At this World Cup, Switzerland defeated the two-time world champion and four-time European champion Netherlands, only as the second team ever. Switzerland only missed the semi-finals because of the poorer goal difference with teams from Italy and the Netherlands tied for points. With a clear 6-2 win against Belgium, the Confederates secured fifth place. This is the best classification they have ever achieved at a World Cup or European Championship finals. Dave Inhelder was honored as the best festival bat. Jan Schäublin was the best young player in the entire tournament and the best Swiss goalscorer.

The final connection to the top of the world was achieved by the Swiss at the 6-nation tournament at the Para Games in Breda 2019. Victories against runner-up world champions Denmark, European champions Netherlands and the prestige win against the German team brought the team to the final. There they were defeated by the Netherlands 6: 9.

Switzerland is currently in third place in the world rankings.
