German Rally Championship 2011

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2011 German Rally Championship started on March 25th and ended on September 25th, 2011 after six rallies. At the Rally Germany , Sandro Wallenwein secured the championship title early.

Difficulties before the season

The transition between 2010/2011 was marked by difficulties for the German Rally Championship and it was temporarily unclear whether the 2011 DRM could take place at all. The trigger was that the DMSB, as the organizer of the DRM, did not tolerate a DRM rally also being part of the AvD German Rally Series . In addition, the DMSB rejected a merger proposed by the AvD between DRS and the ADAC Rallye Masters to form a new "second division". As a consequence, the AvD continued the DRS and withdrew its Saxony Rally from the DRM. As a result, the organizers of the Wartburg rally , the Lausitz rally and the Niederbayern rally also waived the DRM because they wanted to be part of the DRS.

The DRM no longer had a run in East Germany, which is why some participants no longer saw it as a "full" German championship. This led to the departure of several top drivers who did not enroll in the championship in 2011 and who were planning guest starts at the DRM rallies. Felix Herbold , Ruben Zeltner , Peter Corazza , Olaf Dobberkau , Maik Stölzel , Anton Werner and Rainer Noller, among others, did without the DRM. In addition, Škoda Germany got out of the DRM with Mark Wallenwein and the reigning champion Matthias Kahle . Kahle was therefore unable to defend his title.

Registrations

In total, only seven participants registered in the most competitive, first two divisions. The favorites for the title were four-time German champion Hermann Gassner senior and three-time runner-up Sandro Wallenwein . The most prominent newcomer was the Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard , who took part in the 2011 DRM with a Porsche 911 GT3 . In addition, the HJS Diesel Rally Masters was integrated into the DRM, which ran under Division 6 there .

The following list gives an overview of the drivers who were registered in the DRM in 2011. Only registered drivers were entitled to points for the overall ranking and were thus able to win the DRM. Guest starters also took part in the individual DRM rallies, but they did not receive any championship points.

Rallies and results

On December 14, 2010, the DMSB published the calendar for the 2011 season. After some rallies were withdrawn before the season, only the Viking Rally , the Hessen Rally Vogelsberg and the Saarland Rally remained of the previous events . The Baden-Württemberg rally and the Pfalz-Westrich rally were added . In 2011, as it did four years ago, the DRM again took part in the Rally Germany as part of the World Rally Championship . Two races were held there, with the results after the first day and after the second day being evaluated separately.

Championship stand

In 2011 a new points system was introduced for DRM. Points have now been awarded to the first twelve drivers in the overall result of the DRM rallies, with the winner receiving 15 instead of 10 points as before. The allocation of points for the division result, however, was retained. This means that the overall result was weighted more heavily than in the previous year compared to the division result.

1. 2. 3. 4th 5. 6th 7th 8th. 9. 10. 11 12.
Overall result 15th 12 10 9 8th 7th 6th 5 4th 3 2 1
Division result 20th 15th 12 10 8th 6th 4th 3 2 1

Guest starters did not receive any championship points, but their placement influenced the scoring for the registered drivers. These did not move up for guest starters in the points evaluation and only received the number of points for their placement including guest starters. Excluded from this rule were guest starters with vehicles from divisions 7 to 9, for which the registered drivers placed behind them moved up in the point allocation.

In the individual divisions, the full number of points was only awarded if at least three vehicles were named in them, guest starters were included. If there were fewer than three vehicles, only half the number of points was awarded.

For those drivers who had achieved championship points in all seven races, only the best six results were included in the points evaluation.
