German table tennis championship 2017
The 85th national German table tennis championship took place from March 3 to 5, 2017 in Bamberg in the Brose Arena .
In the men took Timo Boll the title of German champions for the eleventh time. In the final he defeated Ruwen Filus 4-0. He did not take part in the double competition. In the double end, Ricardo Walther / Ruwen Filus prevailed against Kilian Ort / Dang Qiu and became German champions as in the previous year. Dimitrij Ovtcharov , Bastian Steger and Patrick Franziska were absent due to injury.
In the women’s category, Kristin Silbereisen and Shan Xiaona were clearly superior to the competition. In the individual they played the final against each other, which Silbereisen won 4-2 and thus defended their title. In the joint double against Tanja Krämer / Jessica Göbel they dominated 3-0. Han Ying (family matter ), Petrissa Solja and Sabine Winter (both injured) were absent .
A mixed competition did not take place. All main rounds were played in the KO system, in singles according to the best-of-seven mode (four winning sets required), in doubles, on the other hand, best-of-five (three winning sets required). The individual fights were preceded by group games in which the active players with the lowest number of values had to qualify for the main field.

- At the age of almost 36, Timo Boll became the oldest German champion to date.
- Jochen Schmitt, regional league player and reigning Hessen champion, took part in a German championship for the first time at the age of 37. He survived the group games but then had no chance against Timo Boll.
- In the women's double semifinals, Anastasia Bondareva (* 2002) and Sophia Klee (* 2003), two female students from Hessen, who are part of the national student squad.

Patrick Decker, Tom Eise, Ali-Serdar Gözübüyük, Tom Heisse, Sven Henning, Richard Hoffmann, Nils Hohmeier, Cedric Meissner, Dennis Müller, Liang Qiu, Jonah Schlie, Tom Schmidt, Kay Stumper, Jannik Xu were eliminated in the group matches of the preliminary round and Henning Zeptner.
