The German Musical Theater Prize 2018 was awarded during a gala on October 1, 2018 in Schmidts Tivoli in Hamburg . After being selected by a jury, winners were chosen for their achievements in 14 different categories. It was the fifth award of the German Musical Theater Prize . The award ceremony was moderated by Ole Lehmann . The honorary award of the German Musical Academy in 2018 went to Pia Douwes , who was also nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the production "A Little Color" (Theater Couch, Vienna). Michael Kunze gave the laudation for this year's honorary award winner .

The production Fack ju Göhte - Das Musical (Werk 7 - Theater im Werksviertel, Munich) was nominated in seven categories for the German Musical Theater Prize - more often than any other production. In 2018 a prize was awarded for the “best revival” for the first time.

Selection process and jury 2018

All German-language musical premieres that premiered from August 15, 2017 to August 14, 2018 and were performed for at least eight performances within the competition period could be nominated for the German Musical Theater Prize 2018 .
