Diabolical is a Swedish death and thrash metal band from Sundsvall , which was founded in 1996 under the name Misanthropic Orchestra .

history

The band was founded in late 1996 under the name Misanthropic Orchestra by guitarist Sverker "Widda" Widgren. The band recorded their first demo towards the end of 1997 in the Mysak studio in Sundsvall. A demo was created that included a song that could be heard on various compilations in 1998 and 1999. The drummer was Keuron, the bass player Phamarus and the singer Jens “Agilma” Blomdal. In April 1998, Keuron was replaced by drummer Lars Söderberg, as Widgren was not satisfied with Keuron's performance. at this point the band also called themselves Diabolical. The rest of the year the band spent rehearsing in the studio, with many different musicians participating in the sessions. In August the band decided to continue without a permanent bass player.

In October 1998 the band went back to the studio to record Northern Triumphators' next demo . The now three-piece band recorded the demo in Green Castle Studio , with Widgren playing the electric guitar, Blomdal the vocals and Söderberg the drums. A few weeks later, the band recorded songs for the compilation Metal Militia Vol. 3 , the release of which was planned for 1998, but this was delayed in 2001. In the months following the recordings, the line-up of the band changed frequently In June 1999 Hans Karlsson joined the band as guitarist. In August 1999, the band recorded the song The Dreaming Dead in Studio 4 . The new singer was Magnus Ödling. In January 2000 the band went to Studio 4 to record their first EP. It contained three new songs as well as the already recorded The Dreaming Dead . The EP was released under the name Deserts of Desolation in May 2000 by Cadla Communications (Western Europe ), Guano Records (Eastern Europe) and Civilian Death Network Records ( America ). About 3,000 copies of the EP were sold.

In July 2000 the band reached a contract with Scarlet Records . In August the band recorded their debut album Synergy at Studio Underground in Västerås . PO Saether was the producer . The album was released in April 2001. The publication followed various offers for performances all over Europe, which the band initially all turned down. In June 2001 Jonas Berndt joined the band as a live bassist. In June 2001 the band held their first ever live performance after which the group decided to hold more live performances in the future. In August and September 2001, the band returned to the Underground studio with PO Saether to record their second album, A Thousand Deaths . In November 2001 followed the first tour through Scandinavia , which included seven gigs in Sweden and Denmark, where the group played together with bands such as Portal , Hatesphere , Grave , Mörk Gryning and Withered Beauty . This was followed by a second tour through Scandinavia in March 2002, which included four appearances in Sweden with Centinex . In the same month Berndt left the band and was replaced by live bassist Roger Bergsten.

In March 2002, A Thousand Deaths was released on Scarlet Records. In America it was released on World War III Music in September . The release was followed by a four-week tour of Europe in April and May with Vomitory , Amon Amarth , Callenish Circle and Sins of Omission . After the tour, Rickard Persson joined the band as permanent bassist and drummer Henric Ohlsson ( Theory in Practice ). Various appearances followed with this line-up in July 2002. In August Henric Ohlsson left the band to concentrate on theory in practice. In the autumn the search for a new drummer began, who was found in February, six months later, with Carl Stjärnlöv. In April and May followed 10 gigs in Sweden, Germany , the Netherlands and Belgium together with Defleshed and Taetre . In May, an appearance at the Swedish 2000 Decibel and in June at the Smack Rock Festival followed . In July the band played at the Austrian Kaltenbach Open Air and the Czech Obscene Extreme .

In 2008 the next album The Gallery of Bleeding Art was released . The release was followed by two smaller tours across Europe. In November 2010 the single Eye was released , which was followed on February 4, 2011 by the compilation Ars Vitae . This would contain previously unpublished recordings from 2010 that were recorded in Tore “Necromorbus” Stjerna's Necromorbus Studio and produced by Sverker Widgren. It also included a live performance and remastered versions of the EP Deserts of Desolation .

style

The band plays a mixture of death and thrash metal, although borrowings from progressive metal are occasionally used.
