Diana Bazalar (born March 13, 1995 ) is a Peruvian hurdler who specializes in the 100 meter distance .

Athletic career

Diana Bazalar gained her first experience at international championships in 2011 at the World Youth Championships near Lille , where she was eliminated in the first round with 14.85 s. The following year, she won the bronze medal in the hurdles sprint at the South American Youth Championships in Mendoza in 14.69 s and finished seventh in the 200-meter run in 25.62 s. In addition, she finished fourth in the Peruvian sprint relay (1000 meters) in 2: 17.48 minutes. In 2013 she reached seventh place at the South American Championships in Cartagena with 14.31 s, as well as at the subsequent Pan American Junior Championships in Medellín with 14.23 s. She then won the Junior South American Championships in Resistencia in 13.67 s over 100 meter hurdles and was sixth in the 400 meter hurdles in 66.17 s. Then she finished fourth in the Juegos Bolivarianos in Trujillo in 13.78 s and came fifth with the 4 x 100 meter relay in 46.67 s. In 2014 she reached the junior world championships in Eugene in the hurdles sprint up to the semifinals and was eliminated there with 13.63 seconds. She then reached seventh place at the Ibero-American Championships in São Paulo in 13.90 s and was disqualified with the relay in the finals, before reaching fourth place at the U23 South American Championships in Montevideo with 13.93 s. In 2015, she took fifth place at the South American Championships in Lima with 13.91 s, as well as with the relay in 46.71 s.

In 2016 she was fifth at the Ibero-American Championships in Rio de Janeiro in 13.60 s and then won the U23 South American Championships in Lima in 13.52 s and won the bronze medal in 47.72 s with the relay. In addition, she reached fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles in 62.25 s and was fifth in the 100-meter run in 12.26 s. The following year she classified herself in sixth place at the South American Championships in Luque with 13.61 s, as well as with the relay in 46.43 s. She then finished fourth in the Juegos Bolivarianos in Santa Marta in 13.53 s and 46.28 s respectively. In 2018 she took part in the South American Games in Cochabamba for the first time , where she won the silver medal behind Venezuelan Génesis Romero in 13.36 seconds and won the bronze medal behind the teams from Venezuela and Bolivia in 46.43 seconds. Then she finished fourth in the Ibero-American Championships in Trujillo in 13.94 s and won the relay in 46.76 s. At the South American Championships in Lima in 2019, she finished fifth in the hurdles in 13.84 s, as well as with the relay in 46.60 s. She also qualified for the first time for the Pan American Games there and was eliminated in the first round with a new national record of 13.25 s. In addition, she did not reach the finish with the relay. In 2020 she won the bronze medal behind the Chilean María Ignacia Eguiguren and María Florencia Lamboglia from Argentina at the first-ever indoor South American championships in Cochabamba in 8.85 seconds .

In 2013, Bazalar was the Chilean champion in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles, in 2015 she won the 100 meter hurdles, in 2016 the 400 meter hurdles and in 2018 and 2019 again in the 100 meter hurdles. She also won the 100 meter run in 2019.
