Die Brücke is a German war drama from 2008 produced by ProSieben for television . Directed by Wolfgang Panzer , the screenplay was written by Wolfgang Kirchner based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Manfred Gregor , published in 1958 , which was made into a film in 1959 with Die Brücke .

action

The action takes place in April 1945, at the end of World War II . The 16-year-old schoolboy Walter Forst was drafted into the Wehrmacht along with six classmates . Walter, the son of a NSDAP functionary , has an affair with the teacher Elfie Bauer, who unsuccessfully tries to dissuade him and his classmates from the mission ordered.

The young soldiers are assigned by a general to defend a bridge against the advancing American troops . They are willing to hold the bridge to the end, but are also shocked by the brutality of the war that claims its victims. The boys succeed in forcing the American armored spearhead to withdraw temporarily. In the all-day fighting, all but Albert Mutz and Walter Forst die. Forst is finally shot by the German demolition squad that wants to destroy the bridge despite the resistance of the students.

Reviews

Dieter Bartetzko wrote in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on September 29, 2008 that the film was “terribly unsuccessful” . The director lets his actors "shoot and jump [...] like heroes in" The Dark Knight "or" The Departed "" . Franka Potente appears "lukewarm and colorless as in a first text sample" and offers a service that borders "on amateurism" .

In the Frankenpost , Eric Leimann (teleschau) praised u. a. the good performance: “[...] the ' Coming of Age ' drama turns into a brutal war film. The young actors do their job well. François Goeske , Lars Steinhöfel , Toni Deutsch , Alexander Becht , Robert Höller , Florian Heppert and Daniel Axt do not have to hide behind the performance of Wepper , Lechtenbrink and Co. It is hardly surprising that the remake was shot in color and the cuts are quicker . Otherwise you can tell by Wolfgang Panzer 's respect for the famous original. ” - Leimann's conclusion: “ A decent, respectful remake has emerged from an oppressive, still drastic milestone in German cinema history. No more, but also no less ” .

Tilmann P. Gangloff criticized in the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger on September 25, 2008 the awkward performances of the young actors as well as the "[...] caricature" of the "embodiments of the experienced actors [...]" . He emphasized the “intense” style of the fighting scenes including the sound: “Notorious consumers of computer shooting games will really enjoy the firefights” .

On Spiegel Online 's film was Christian Buss heavily criticized: " Just pathetic - or even dangerous to the community? ProSieben dismantled Bernhard Wicki's anti-war film Die Brücke in a way that was compatible with target groups and advertising blocks and shot it again for television - complete with Gauleiter gags and humid, sultry love story: anti-fascism in times of soap and comedy. ” He states:“ Instead of digging deep into fascination like Wicki To think of young people for the war, ProSieben director Wolfgang Panzer and author Wolfgang Kirchner threaten to succumb to this fascination again and again. "

The magazine TV Spielfilm wrote that the film was a remake of the classic Die Brücke from 1959 "for kids" . He invented "striking [...], but also quite flat to questionable" scenes and included an "unnecessary erotic subplot" .
