The woman, speaking of which one is a screwball comedy from 1942, with the long-term cooperation of the actor Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn began.

action

Tess Harding and Sam Craig both work for the same newspaper. When they get to know each other, the urbane and hectic political journalist and the down-to-earth sports reporter are immediately drawn to each other, even though they disregard each other's profession. Nevertheless, they hastily decide to marry. But it is already obvious that their character differences make it difficult to live together. In particular, the political commitment of Tess, who decided to bring a Greek boy home with her because she took over the patronage of the Greek orphanage, turns out to be an increasing burden. Eventually she is voted "Woman of the Year" just as Sam ends the relationship. More lessons will be needed for both of them to come back together.

Remarks

The film was (in the English) original version peppered with tips on the political world situation. When the film was released in German cinemas in 1948 , these were replaced by non-binding formulations.

The film was the first of nine films the couple Tracy / Hepburn made together.

When the two met, the rather tall Hepburn said to the smaller Tracy: "I'm afraid I'm too big for you," to which he replied, "Don't worry, I'll adjust you to my height." Nevertheless, both began a longstanding personal relationship that made her Hollywood's most popular couple .

Reviews

“An extravagant political columnist marries a good-natured sports reporter: It takes a lot of goodwill and love on both sides before the marriage is finally happy. Humorous comedy from the newspaper milieu, effectively celebrated by the star duo Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, who appear here for the first time. "

“This immensely enjoyable comedy - the scene in which she tries to understand her first live baseball game is unforgettable - was the start of one of the happiest star combinations in film history. Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy complemented each other perfectly. "
