The Pack of Heirs is a German television film by Ulrich König from 2001 based on motifs from the novel of the same name by Gaby Hauptmann . The main roles are played alongside Günter Pfitzmann , Veronika Fitz , Catherine Flemming , Eleonore Weisgerber and Friederike Wagner . Rosemarie Fendel can be seen in the role of an eccentric but lovable diva who puts an end to her life herself.

action

Building contractor Arno Adelmann, who retired from work three years ago after a heart attack, lives with his prudent housekeeper Nancy in a spacious villa on Lake Constance . Adelmann has his quirks, but his heart, as the saying goes, in the right place. One of his quirks is that he uses a shotgun to tackle molehills that are marring his beautiful lawn.

On Adelmann's 77th birthday, his daughters Thekla and Bianca and their husbands can be seen again with their father, for whom they otherwise have little time. They look around with eagle eyes to see whether any valuables have disappeared in the villa that they have already planned to inherit. The gifts they brought with them, which they praise in the highest tones, are not exactly graced by Adelmann's eyes. Another guest is Romy, a very special friend of the birthday child. She appeared together with the much younger Claudio Barilla, whom she introduced as her reader.

Since Adelmann had shot little Caro's cat by mistake the day before, Nancy sends him the next morning with a tray of delicacies to her mother Ina, who has inherited the neighboring property with a house in need of renovation. The ceiling almost fell on his head when it suddenly collapsed. Since it is currently not possible to live in the building that is in danger of collapsing, Adelmann offers mother and daughter to temporarily live in his house. At the same time, from this point on, he also takes care of monitoring the construction work.

That calls his daughter Thekla and Bert Hübner, who is no less interested in the inheritance, the husband of her younger sister Bianca, on the scene. Both fear that their expected legacy will be diminished. When the opportunity arises, Thekla Ina blatantly threatens that she sees her as an inheritance stalker. When Ina withdraws, Adelmann washes his clan's head properly and even threatens disinheritance. Now Thekla and her brother-in-law Bert use harder bandages, they want to have the old man declared incapable of doing business . A psychotherapist friend and a sworn expert should help you with this and draw up an expert opinion on your behalf. Bert is sure that it will work because he still owes him something.

When the two of them visit Romy, allegedly to elicit stories from her past for a book, they find her dead in the armchair. She has ingested the poison of the Belladonna , as she frankly explains on a video. Thekla and Bert see a chance to label Ina, who runs the pharmacy that once belonged to Romy's husband, together with Claudio as a murderous couple and to drive Arno into a heart attack. So they hide the poison bottle between Claudio's things and take the video with them. When Commissioner Meissner questions them, both deliberately give false information. They also make the farewell letter to Claudio, the sole heir of the rich woman, disappear. Claudio is then arrested. As if Romy's death wasn't bad enough for Adelmann, he also receives a letter from the court, telling him that his daughters want to declare him incapable of doing business.

Ina notices that Romy died exactly ten years after the death of her husband. Together with other oddities, the suspicion that someone has a hand in it is reinforced. Nancy and Ina investigate and, with Bianca's help, secure the remains of the video cassette that Bert destroyed. Bert has just let his wife know what he thinks of her being pregnant. The session on Arno Adelmann's legal capacity turns out to be completely different from what Thekla and Bert had imagined. The appraiser, who explains to Bert that he no longer owes him anything, speaks out against the application. Romy's defective video could be restored to such an extent that it becomes clear that she ingested the poison of her own free will, and the judge hears Thekla attacking Bert and complaining that she had also paid 10,000 euros for such an opinion. Thekla and Bert are arrested by Inspector Meissner for pretending to be a criminal offense. The application for legal incapacity is rejected. Bianca apologizes to her father and confesses to him that she is pregnant, and the old man is delighted to be a grandpa after all. Arno and Nancy get married.

Background, publication

For Henriette Confurius, born in 1991, this film is one of the first two films in which she took part, alongside the comedy Women Who Drink Prosecco , which was broadcast a month earlier. For Günther Pfitzmann, however, it was his last film in a leading role. In 2002 he only worked as a guest actor in two series episodes before he succumbed to a heart attack in 2003.

As Gaby Hauptmann, the author of the template, reported, Günter Pfitzmann called her after the film had aired and asked if she could imagine a series, because he enjoyed his role so much and felt so good during the shooting how rare. She was very pleased with his suggestion and could well imagine it, but unfortunately Pfitzmann did not live long enough for it. Hauptmann confessed that the impetus for her book and the main character was the watch manufacturer Junghans , who certainly has a lot to talk about in heaven with Pfitzmann.

The pack of heirs was first broadcast on April 6, 2001 in the SWR program.

criticism

TV Spielfilm gave the film a medium rating (thumbs to the side) and said the pack of heirs was "[as] exciting as a butter trip ... it couldn't be more harmless".

Kino.de saw it completely differently and spoke of a “turbulent television comedy with the wonderful Günter Pfitzmann. The actor, who died in 2003, turned out to be the ideal cast for the role of the old man who fooled his inherited daughters and sons-in-law ”. Pfitzmann had so much fun with his role that he even suggested a sequel, which however never came about.

The lexicon of the international film read: "Turbulent, undemanding (television) comedy about the small tensions in the family that grow into moderately severe disasters on given occasions."

HeuteTV praised the film version with the words: "'The pack of heirs' is a lively comedy staged with sparkling humor with a gorgeous Günter Pfitzmann in the lead role."
