background

The series originated from the radio broadcasting exhibition from August 14 to 23, 1959 in Frankfurt. The Augsburger Puppenkiste shot this multi-part for it. Since there were only very few recordings left from this live exhibition, the Puppenkiste shot the series again in 1960/61. Hilde Nocker and Moomin Snorki moderated the live performance , synchronized by Walter Oehmichen.

The Augsburger Puppenkiste had not previously made any multi-part films, rather smaller films. As the Moomin family was a success, it was decided to shoot even more multi-part films. Until 1959, Die Puppenkiste only made films directed by Ekkehard Böhmer, who replaced Fritz Umgelter in 1955. Further films were made until 1962, after which they only rarely. Harald Schäfer directed this production. After the success of the series, he continued to direct multi-part films for the next ten years.
