Walter Schellemann

Walter Schellemann (born March 22, 1931 in Krumbach ; † February 16, 2008 in Hamburg ) was a German puppeteer , speaker and film editor . He gained fame through his participation in productions of the Augsburger Puppenkiste .

Life

Walter Schellemann went to school in Augsburg. After the bombing of Augsburg in February 1944, he and his classmates were taken to the Darmstadt house in Hirschegg (Mittelberg municipality) in June 1944 . Classmates included u. a. Günter Mack and Wilhelm Girstenbrey. His brother Carlo Schellemann was also present at times . He did not return to Augsburg until May 8, 1945.

Schellemann was part of the ensemble of the Augsburg puppet theater "Puppenkiste" and participated in several productions there. His best-known speaking role is that of the melancholy elephant seal in the most successful production of the Augsburger Puppenkiste, Urmel aus dem Eis . In addition, his voice could be heard among other things as "Captain Freshwater Charly" in Three Jungle Detectives and as "Fidibus" in The Prince of Pumpelonia .

Walter Schellemann was married to Margot Schellemann (1930-2012), who also worked as a speaker and puppeteer for the Augsburger Puppenkiste. Unusually, both of them worked as film editors throughout their careers. Among other things, Walter was responsible for editing several episodes of the crime series Tatort .
