Three jungle detectives is the title of a six-part marionette production by the Augsburger Puppenkiste , which was created in 1991 under the direction of Sepp Strubel in collaboration with the Hessischer Rundfunk and was first broadcast at the turn of the year 1992/1993.

Place of action

All actions take place in the fictional jungle village of Cocopalmariocasas on the Cocopalmario River. Cocopalmariocasas can only be reached by water, and there is only a single phone in the village square. The other places where the village community meets are the pier at Cocopalmario and the ice cream parlor.

Characters

All characters are shown as personified animal figures. The main actors are the three minors Elinor, Zapp and Bubu, who act as detectives to solve small criminal cases. A number of other residents live throughout the village and are occasionally involved in the activities. Many villagers like to sing.

The most important characters in detail:

  • The hippo girl Elinor is a fan of Inspector Camembert , a cartoon hero with a trench coat and floppy hat, whom she admires on the only television in Cocopalmariocasas in the restaurant of ice cream parlor owner Jojo. She is afraid of water and catches a cold easily .
  • The walking bird Zapp is well read, can write with his beak and makes technical inventions in his workshop. He often uses the exclamations. There is a lot going on in my head. and Belahuahe . He avoids flying. In one episode, he disguises himself as Lady Winebeer in order to convict a perpetrator.
  • The chimpanzee boy Bubu is actually called Bübü , but because of his wide mouth he can only pronounce the Ü as U and is therefore called Bubu by everyone apart from his aunt Madame Juliette . He lives in a tree house, for which Zapp built an elevator from a bath tub so that all other villagers can visit him. He is very musical and plays two-handed on his xylophone . He often confirms statements with yes, yes, yes .
  • The Bear Sheriff Müller is responsible for police work in the jungle , but according to his own statement, permanently overloaded. He spends most of his time in a hammock and is the only resident who has an all-terrain vehicle and a motorboat .
  • The ice cream parlor owner Jojo is a dog . From time to time his beloved dog friend, the photo model Irene, visits him from abroad, who otherwise sends him postcards every day. Zapp built a wind generator for him to generate electricity with which his television set can be operated. However, the refrigerator must be cooled with ice delivered daily.
  • The bird of paradise is primarily concerned with its magnificent appearance and for this purpose has a mirror into which it looks while singing its recurring, narcissistic song Herrje, what am I beautiful .
  • Captain Freshwater Charly is a beaver who visits the village every day with his ship. It not only transports mail and goods, but also visitors. He tends to sing sad ship 's songs.
  • Ms. Kangaroo collects and distributes the mail to and from Cocopalmariocasas. Otherwise she is very talkative and until a message and a mailing about a lottery win she had never received any mail.
  • Nickel Kanin is a helpful but curious rabbit boy who is always happy to help out the three jungle detectives, which he usually does with the exclamation egg, of course! approved. He can run very quickly, sing beautifully and sleepily despite his speech impediment, and insists on not being a rabbit .
  • Gürtli is an armadillo . He is very proud of the belts he produces , which are exported all over the world.
  • Caregiver Kümmelmann is a stork who is responsible for the village 's retirement home . He is very polite and correct. On his one day off a week he is represented by the duck Miss Seven .
  • The greyhound Detlef with the pseudonyms Dr. Lippsel and Dr. Funkstedt sells unnecessary products to residents of the nursing home at inflated prices. He is in a relationship with Miss Seven . He visits the village with his own boat with an outboard motor .
  • Grandma Schildpatt , a very old turtle , is a resident of the old people's home. She is very hard of hearing.
  • Grandpa Siegfried Elch is the only male resident of the nursing home. He is always correctly dressed, can hardly see anything, but still has good ears. He saved up in his home far north in order to be able to afford his retirement home in Cocopalmariocasas.
  • Mrs. Arbez is a zebra ( anagram of Arbez ) who prefers to stand in front of a fence for camouflage. The best compliment you can give her is to tell her that you couldn't find her there. Otherwise she is very simple, likes to giggle and also lives in the nursing home.
  • The turkey Mr. Svoboda is a single, reliable grocer who has almost everything on offer that is needed in the village.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Panda are very domestic and like to eat bamboo .
  • Mr. and Mrs. Raccoon are busy washing clothes all day.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Schmitt are aardvarks . You live very secluded in an earthwork, cannot read and show a reserved, naive and benevolent disposition.
  • Mr. von Pelikan is conceited and often seems incomprehensible.
  • Mr. Oka Pi is an okapi . He leads tour groups gradually through Cocopalmariocasas and stands out for well-intentioned hints that are not always as funny as they are intended.
  • The theater elefant visits the village as an experienced and well-traveled showman. The three jungle detectives help him prepare and carry out his presentation.

Otherwise, penguins appear as tourists, the crocodile gang as villains and, at night, three whispering owls .
