action

Landlord Hugo struggles with financial worries and can no longer pay the lease because his customers are already in default. All his consolation is his beautiful daughter Elsa, who is courted by knight Bertold. When Hugo tries to move his deceased wife's jewelry to find money in a mysterious castle, fate takes its course. In the morning he carelessly picks a rose for Elsa in the palace garden. Suddenly a monster, half human, half animal, stands before him and demands his life as atonement. Hugo saves his head, but has to deliver the first living creature to the beast he meets at home. Hugo thinks that this will probably be his dog, but it is the beloved daughter and she must now pay the father's debt. The beast captures beauty and wants to force her to marry. But Elsa resists. She has only one goal: to escape from the magic castle. Even the two clumsy servants Wenzel and Irmel cannot persuade them to give their love to the lord of the castle. He understands that he cannot win the girl by force, and he promises: If he does not succeed in winning her heart within a period of time, Elsa is free and may go. The beast tries hard to get Elsa and tries to win over her and to woo her further. But only when Elsa still wants to flee during the night and she is saved from a falling tree by the beast at the risk of his life, Elsa also arouses feelings for the beast. Shortly before the beast finally perishes from the curse that has befallen it, Elsa reveals her love for it and kisses it. Immediately the beast turns back into the handsome prince. After a violent argument with the knight Bertolt, Elsa and the prince finally meet.
