action

Snow White's stepmother, the Evil Queen, has celebrated every day since the death of Snow White's father, the King. Everyone in the palace admires the queen for her beauty. Because Snow White is just as beautiful as the Queen, she lets Snow White hide from people. When the queen's magic mirror, when asked who is the most beautiful, replies that Snow White is a thousand times more beautiful than the queen, she instructs her brother Gilig to kill the young king's daughter. Snow White manages to escape to the seven dwarfs, who take in the beautiful Snow White after a few delays. When the queen realizes that Snow White is still alive, she wants to kill her with a poisoned apple. Snow White bites into it and falls dead. But Prince Kilian, who fell in love with Snow White while they were talking in the castle, followed the queen and found the poisoned Snow White. Sadly, he kisses the girl and suddenly the breath of nature brings Snow White back to life. Together with the dwarfs, Snow White and the prince go to the castle to overthrow the queen from the throne. She has just put on a wig that she wants to stay beautiful with forever. She got this from the dwarves. Snow White tears the wig from her head and the seven dwarfs bring in the mirror, which has the property of always telling the truth. So he is asked who killed the king and he answers the mirror that the queen was. She then tries to kill Snow White again, but the plan fails. Snow White and Kilian get the throne. The mirror and the wig now belong to Snow White, but she has both destroyed. As a punishment you can see how the wicked queen has to break in the replica face on a slope where she had her face chiseled. She slips off what looks to the viewer as if she were killed in the process.

Comparison of fairy tales and film

The fairy tale film is based on the fairy tale, but its content has been greatly changed and modernized in many places. The more than 200 year old template by the Brothers Grimm has been heavily edited and tightened.

For example, the laces and the poisoned comb with which the queen tries to kill Snow White in the fairy tale are missing. Likewise, there is no glass coffin or stumbling dwarf that can break it. Instead, the prince kisses Snow White awake. The reason for awakening is also the breath of nature. In addition, the dwarf world was changed: They live by a lake and deal with the breath of nature. The queen also doesn't have to dance in hot slippers until she's dead. In the film, all she has to do is work on a mountain. The introduction has also been changed. Furthermore, it is the queen's brother who is supposed to kill Snow White, not the hunter.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv judged: “Screenwriter Max Honert [...] has edited and dramaturgically tightened it so that the 90-minute film has some appeal even for big 'children'. This is also due to the characters and their role-images, in which zeitgeist and female emancipation have clearly found their way. The queen's narcissism was forced at the time and is vividly embodied by Nadeshda Brennicke. And Snow White is a young, likeable, good-looking woman who is not reduced to her beauty, but rather her inner values are emphasized. Tijan Marei plays it energetically, brisk and with a mischievous smile. The varied staging by the award-winning cameraman Ngo The Chau, who is making his directorial debut here, is also impressive. "

For the Frankfurter Rundschau and also for Kino.de , Tilmann P. Gangloff evaluated : This film adaptation is "with a lot of borrowings from the fantasy genre, with convincing special effects and with characters, [...] brushed against the classic fairytale line." "That Snow White [is not only] beautiful, [but also] strong and courageous. ”“ Fortunately, the times in which the heroines of such stories were attractive, but otherwise primarily victims, are over. A big hit, however, are the dwarfs, a collection of daring lads who tend to have a certain belligerence, but are otherwise a conspiratorial bunch. ”Conclusion:“ With its opulent appearance, [the film] would also do well in the cinema. ”

Cinema.de briefly summarized its film criticism as: "Smart intrigue game with a beautiful look."

film-rezensions.de , on the other hand, wrote: “The obvious attempt to give the well-known story a more adventurous mood […] does not really work because the plot cannot keep up. Too little happens, which leads to a strange discrepancy between the images and what is actually happening. Even without these filters and monotonous colors there would be enough to see, which makes the decision all the more strange - like so many things here. "
