action

Texas ranger Sam Garrett is pursuing two brothers in the desert because the wanted poster on Rex Calhoun has since been invalidated; however, he cannot prevent four bounty hunters from killing the fugitive. His ride to see the sheriff with the young Bob Calhoun is prevented by a targeted shot at the horse. Still, the law enforcement officer arrives at Sheriff Luke's office just in time to take the $ 500 back from Allen as the leader of the quartet. The subsequent provocations on the street are interrupted by the appearance of the wealthy rancher Jeffrey Anders, who wants to spend a happy afternoon in the saloon with his numerous cowboys. In the late evening he is picked up by his wife Eliza and daughter Rita because his passion for playing has seized him; to his surprise, Texas ranger Garrett and the poker table are loaded onto the carriage at the same time - a circumstance that the "bounty hunters" who are looking for revenge use to their advantage. They ride under cover of night to the Anders ranch, and Allen, who penetrates the house, first knocks Garrett unconscious, then puts on his vest, pretends to fight the plump host, kills him and rides off on the ranger's white horse while his Accomplices dragging away the unconscious - for Mrs. Anders, who can only see the rider from behind, it is clear that Garrett must be the murderer.

The perfidious plan works perfectly; When Garrett, who has also been made drunk by the villains, wakes up in his hotel room the next morning, he is arrested by the sheriff and his men. Narrowly avoiding lynching, he cannot prove his innocence at the trial, and the judge sentences him to death. With the help of a trick and Bob Calhoun, who has his horse ready outside, Garrett is able to escape; When the "hanging party" breaks up the next morning, widow Anders reproaches the sheriff with the most severe reproaches and promises the ingratiating Allen quartet a lot of money to catch the delinquent. Trying to somehow get to his ranger quarters, he stops at his friend, rancher John. But the bastard quartet also emerges quickly, and Garrett only escapes with difficulty, who is able to eliminate two of the four fiends - Moss and Baxter. In a saloon, despite the help of his friends Daisy, he falls into the hands of the other two, and his fate seems sealed again; because the widow Anders had demanded a live delivery of the gallows candidate, the ride back is Garrett's last chance. In fact, he can briefly overpower his guard Troy while Allen is watering the horses, who in turn shoots Troy on his return as the latter prepares to kill Garrett. The following fight between the two remaining sees Garrett as the winner after changing advantages, but he also fails to get rid of all. Instead, men from another farce arrest him and bring him back to the site of the planned execution. Thanks to the information he has gathered in the meantime, however, he is able to convince the sheriff to accept a mock execution in order to convict Allen; when that succeeds, the Texas ranger can kill Allen, who is stealing money from the sheriff's safe again.
