Dieter Fringeli

Dieter Fringeli (born July 17, 1942 in Basel ; † April 9, 1999 in Basel ) was a Swiss German scholar , literary critic and writer .

Life

Dieter Fringeli was born in Basel in 1942 as the son of the poet Albin Fringeli and grew up in Nunningen . After graduating from high school, he studied German, history and philosophy at the Universities of Basel and Freiburg (Switzerland) .

As a student he published his first volume of poetry. He was one of the founders of the Olten Group and was on the board there for the first three years.

In 1967 Fringeli received his doctorate with a thesis on Alexander Xaver Gwerder . He then made a longer stay in Hamburg and worked for several years as a high school teacher in Basel. 1972–1974 he had a teaching position for new German literature at the ETH Zurich , in 1973 he also taught at the University of Lausanne . From 1976 to 1987 he was head of the features section of Basler Nachrichten resp. of the Basler Zeitung . During this time he became an esteemed literary critic. Since 1987 he has lived as a freelance writer in Basel, where he died in 1999.
