Dieter Schmidt (born February 4, 1947 ) is a former German soccer player . The midfielder and defender played eight games in the Bundesliga for Borussia Neunkirchen in the 1967/68 season and 56 league games with six goals for the team from the Ellenfeldstadion in the second -rate Southwest regional soccer league by 1972 . In the last two years of the second-rate Regionalliga Südwest he played another 43 league games with three goals at SV Alsenborn from 1972 to 1974.

career

Schmidt, who had moved up from the Borussia youth team to the league squad, was first used by coach Zeljko Cajkovski on May 14, 1967, the last round match day in 1966/67, in the Borussia Neunkirchen league team. In the 3-2 home win against Saar 05 Saarbrücken, he defended together with Volker Münz in front of goalkeeper Horst Kirsch . Neunkirchen won the Southwest Championship and prevailed in the promotion round to promotion to the Bundesliga. But Dieter Schmidt was never used.

In the Bundesliga season 1967/68 Schmidt then completed eight Bundesliga games for the black and whites from the Ellenfeldstadion . The Eigengewächs debuted on December 16, 1967 in a 1: 2 away defeat at VfB Stuttgart as right wing runner alongside stopper Erich Leist and left side runner Dieter Schock in the Bundesliga. Also on the 34th and last round match day, May 25, 1968, in a 1: 2 away defeat at SV Werder Bremen, he represented the colors of the Saarelf. The round ended with goalkeeper Willi Ertz , defender couple Gerd Regitz and Volker Münz and in the runner row with Schmidt, Jürgen Rohweder and Peter Czernotzky . Neunkirchen occupied the penultimate place in the final table and thus descended into the second class.

Schmidt stayed and played with Borussia in the Regionalliga Südwest. After a fifth place in the table in the first year, the fourth place followed in the second season 1969/70. In the third year, the 1970/71 season , Schmidt won under coach Kurt Sommerlatt and alongside players like Gerd Schley , Heinz Histing , Werner Martin , Norbert Hess , Gerd Zewe , Erich Hermesdorf , Jürgen Pontes and Heinz-Jürgen Henkes the championship and qualified for the subsequent round of promotion. He played one game against Wacker 05 Berlin (2-0), but second place in the round, behind Fortuna Düsseldorf , was not enough for promotion. With the third championship success in 1971/72 with Borussia Neunkirchen in the Regionalliga Südwest he came under the new coach Alfred Preißler to his last five association games. For the 1972/73 season he joined the Palatinate league rivals SV Alsenborn and ended there after another 43 second-rate regional league appearances with three goals in the summer of 1974, his higher-class career.
