Erich Leist (born May 13, 1935 in Marpingen ; † August 13, 2014 ) was a German football player . The defensive player has in Borussia Neunkirchen from 1958 to 1968 in the Oberliga Southwest , Bundesliga and (1963-1973) Regionalliga Southwest completed a total of 272 league games with 13 goals. In addition, from 1959 to 1963 there were 17 more games with two goals in the finals for the German soccer championship , as well as 13 appearances (2 goals) in the Bundesliga promotion rounds in 1964 and 1967.

Leist began playing football at his home club, FC Hellas Marpingen . After two third places in 1956/57 and 1957/58 with Marpingen in the amateur league Saarland, he accepted the offer of the upper division Borussia Neunkirchen and moved to the then first-class Oberliga Südwest. Neunkirchen had represented the power of south-west football well. Despite these five years of success, Neunkirchen was not nominated for the Bundesliga, which started in 1963/64. He competed with Borussia in the new Bundesliga substructure of the second-class Regionalliga Südwest.
With coach Horst Buhtz , the championship was won in a three-way battle with FK Pirmasens and Wormatia Worms and entered the BL promotion round. Leist had played 37 league games and scored one goal; The defense led by him conceded only 32 goals in 38 rounds and was by far the best defense in the southwest. So completely surprising, the 1: 5 defeat on the start day of the promotion round, on June 6th in the Berlin Olympic Stadium against Tasmania Berlin . In the second Bundesliga season, 1965/66 , the Saarlanders could not repeat the performance of their debut year. As a result of injuries, Leist was only able to play in 20 of the 34 game days now and so the defense was no longer a guarantee for relegation. As penultimate, the black and whites were relegated to the regional league. Under the new coach Zeljko Cajkovski , the championship win in the 1966/67 regional league season in the southwest and thus the entry into the BL promotion round succeeded immediately . The defensive boss, now more and more hindered by injuries, played 22 league games in the association round. In the promotion round, however, he was constantly on the ball - Leist played all eight games and scored two penalty goals - and Neunkirchen beat competitors Schwarz-Weiß Essen, Arminia Hannover, Hertha BSC and Bayern Hof with 11: 5 points and moved to second time in the Bundesliga. The main line-up on the defensive consisted of goalkeeper Horst Kirsch , defenders Gerd Regitz and Peter Czernotzky , and the runner row with Günter Kuntz , Leist and Dieter Schock .
The Bundesliga returnee had no serious chance of staying up in 1967/68 . With 93 goals conceded, they led this negative balance, the 33 goals scored only undercut the relegated Karlsruher SC with 32 goals. Neunkirchen and Karlsruhe were the relegated teams. Leist came back to 23 Bundesliga appearances and scored three goals.
At the end of the round he ended his activity in Neunkirchen and returned to his hometown club Hellas Marpingen. He played there until 1975, when at the age of 40 he finally retired from the league game and laced his kick boots for the senior men.

Leist was not accepted into the national team under national coaches Sepp Herberger and Helmut Schön . From the available reference works, only its use in the final test before the 1962 World Cup in Chile, on March 21, 1962 in Saarbrücken, between two DFB national teams is documented. Private
Leist was married and had three children. He had learned the trade of a car mechanic, completed his advanced training with a master craftsman's certificate and was later active as a manager at a large car dealer in Saarland.
Together with friends he founded the tennis club TC Grün-Weiß Marpingen in 1974 and practiced this hobby until 2009.
