Albrecht Karl Louis Theodor von Sanitz (born November 25, 1830 in Münster , † February 21, 1890 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Albrecht was a member of Neumark noble family of Sanitz . He was a son of the Prussian captain and trainee of the Traindepot in Münster Hans von Sanitz (1782-1837) and his wife Charlotte Wilhelmine, née Klanke (1801-1878).

Military career

Sanitz visited the cadet houses in Bensberg and Berlin . He was then employed on April 1, 1848, as a characterized porter ensign in the 17th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . In 1849, during the suppression of the Baden Revolution, Sanitz took part in the fighting at Philippsburg , Waghäusel , Bischweier and Kuppenheim . As a secondary lieutenant , he was in command of the Infantry Training Battalion from mid-March 1852 to mid-November 1853, and from April 1854 for three years to the battalion's school department. In mid-November 1857, Sanitz was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and from March 1858 to January 1860 was in command as a company commander in the 1st Battalion of the 17th Landwehr Regiment. On November 13, 1859 he was promoted to captain and on February 23, 1861 appointed company commander. During the German War , in 1866, Sanitz worked as a company commander in his regiment's replacement battalion.

On September 25, 1867, he was transferred to the 7th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 96 and with his promotion to Major , Sanitz was appointed a regular staff officer on October 10, 1868 . On May 10, 1870, he came to the Guard Fusilier Regiment . As commander of the III. He took part in battalions at Gravelotte and Beaumont and the sieges of Metz and Paris . In the Battle of Sedan , his troops succeeded in taking several hundred French prisoners and capturing the eagle of the French 17th Infantry Regiment and eight guns . For his achievements, Sanitz received both classes of the Iron Cross .

After the peace treaty he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in the summer of 1874 was commanded to the Russian military maneuvers near Warsaw and Saint Petersburg . After his promotion to colonel , Sanitz acted from May 18, 1876 to May 13, 1881 as commander of the 4th Guards Regiment on foot . He was then placed à la suite of the regiment and Sanitz was appointed inspector of the infantry schools. In this position he was promoted to major general on September 13, 1882 . On January 18, 1887, he was commissioned to take on the business as governor of Cologne . With his promotion to lieutenant general, Sanitz was appointed governor of the city on March 22, 1887 and awarded the star of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on May 5, 1888 for his work . From June 1888 he belonged to a commission for the revision of the drill regulations for the infantry . Due to his poor health, Sanitz submitted his departure and was put up for disposal on August 18, 1888 with the statutory pension and the award of the Order of the Crown, 1st class .

After his departure, Sanitz moved to Berlin, where he died unmarried and was buried in the Invalidenfriedhof on February 24, 1890 .
