Digora ( Russian Дигора , Ossetian ) is a city in the North Caucasian Republic of North Ossetia-Alania with 10,856 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus , in the Ossetian plain about 50 km northwest of the republic capital Vladikavkaz on the Ursdon , a left tributary of the Terek .
Digora is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name .
The town is the terminus of a 24 km cargo terminal distance from the station Darg-Koch of railway prokhladny -Wladikawkas over the neighboring city Ardon .
history
The place arose in 1852 as a village of Christianized Ossetians, initially under the name Wolno-Christianowski , later Novochristianowskoje , then Christianowskoje . In 1934 it was renamed Digora , after one of the Ossetians' own names, digoron . In 1964 the place received city rights under this name.

In Digora there is a factory for cardboard boxes and various companies in the food industry. The city is the center of an agricultural area.
