Zavodskoi ( Russian Заводско́й ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania ( Russia ) with 16,792 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
Zavodskoi belongs to the urban district of the North Ossetian capital Vladikavkaz and is located about 7 km north of the city center as the crow flies . The settlement is under the administration of the Municipal District (munizipalny okrug) Promyshlenny, one of the four municipal districts of Vladikavkaz. The settlement extends over a good 3 km in the plain through which the Terek flows on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus , about 1 to 3 km from the right bank of the river.
history
Zavodskoi was built as a housing estate in the 1960s and received urban-type settlement status in 1968. The name is derived from the Russian word sawod for 'work'; the settlement is not far from the larger industrial area in the north-eastern part of Vladikavkaz (at the time of the establishment of Zavodskoi: Ordzhonikidze ).

Infrastructure
Zavodskoi is located immediately to the east of the Beslan - Vladikavkaz railway line, which opened in 1875 as part of the Rostov-on-Don line . The Kolonka (km 15) and Sadon (km 17) stations are near the settlement . The road from Vladikavkaz to the Georgian border (also A161 ) runs further west . This area is bypassed over a medium area by a bypass road to the left of the Terek ( European route 117 ).
There is a city bus and " marshrutka " connection between Zavodskoi and Vladikavkaz .
