Dimethachlor is a 1: 1 mixture of two atropisomeric chemical compounds from the group of chloroacetanilides, as well as alachlor and metolachlor . The selective pre-emergence herbicide works by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis and was launched in 1977.

Extraction and presentation

Dimethachlor can be produced by reacting 2,6-dimethylaniline and methoxyacetaldehyde , followed by hydrogenation and reaction with chloroacetic acid chloride .
