Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf
The Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf (Engl. Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf ) is one of four dioceses of the Anglican Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and the Middle East . It comprises two geographically separated regions: the island of Cyprus and the states of the Arabian Peninsula (with most of the communities on the Persian Gulf ). The bishopric is St Paul's Cathedral in Nicosia ; there is also the co-cathedral of St Christopher in Bahrain . The language of worship is mostly English.
A special feature is that almost all of the believers are foreigners: British emigrants in Cyprus and expatriates or labor migrants from South and Southeast Asia and Africa in the Gulf States. Only in Baghdad is there a small indigenous community whose future is uncertain.
The diocese was created in 1976. Until then, most of the Arabian Peninsula was subordinate to the bishop in Lahore .
There is a collaboration with the dioceses of Exeter in England and Thika in Kenya .
