Dirk Bell

Dirk Bell (* 1958 in Bonn ) is a German jazz and improvisation musician ( guitar , Chapman stick , also flute ) and music producer .

Career

Bell initially worked as a folk musician. He first studied with Paul Shigihara and Michael Heupel . Then he went to Los Angeles to study jazz guitar with Pat Martino at the Guitar Institute of Technology . There he was also a student of John Abercrombie , Joe Diorio and Steve Trovato ; he played with musicians such as Jean M'ba, Gary Garofalo, Thiery Hochstatter and Claude Buri. He then studied musicology at the University of Bonn with a focus on musical acoustics with Martin Vogel and Rainer Kadenbach, who directed his focus to intonation and pure tuning . Between 2003 and 2011 he was Misha Mengelberg in counterpoint taught.

He first played in the trio Confidence Building Measures with Paul Hubweber and Carl Ludwig Hübsch , with whom he released an album with adapted Beatles songs in 1993. With his trio and quartet, of which François de Ribaupierre was long a member , he performs regularly, for example on Sundays at the Museum Ludwig . Together with Rodrigo Lopez-Klingenfuss, Joscha Oetz and Ramesh Shotham , he forms the KosmosHotel group . He also belongs to the Cologne orchestra gRoBA , which interprets new music . He also produces music for theater and film.
