Dirk Reimers

Dirk Reimers (born January 10, 1943 in Neumünster ) is a German lawyer and civil servant and was executive director of the German National Foundation until the end of 2017 . From 1987 to 1991 he was police chief and from 1991 to 2001 State Councilor in Hamburg .

Live and act

After studying law and passing the second state examination in 1973, Reimers joined the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg . He started out as a policy advisor to corporate management in the tax authority; later he worked in the areas of organization, finance and personnel in various authorities.

In 1987 he became the chief of police of Hamburg appointed in 1991 he became State of the Interior Ministry and Land Returning Officer and founded the Police club Hamburg . As a result of the so-called Hamburg police scandal , Reimers had to give up the office after the resignation of Interior Senator Werner Hackmann in 1994 and was transferred to the tax authority led by Ortwin Runde . In 1995 he moved to the environmental authority headed by Fritz Vahrenholt , and after the general election in 1997 he moved back to the finance authority headed by Ingrid Nümann-Seidewinkel . With the replacement of the resigned Interior Senator Hartmuth Wrocklage by Olaf Scholz in May 2001, he returned to the interior authorities. After the general election in 2001 , he worked briefly under the new Interior Senator Ronald Schill and was put into temporary retirement at the end of 2001.

As a civil servant, Reimers held numerous supervisory board mandates and was a representative of the Senate in the Science Council , in the Senate of the Helmholtz Association and in the German Overseas Institute .

After his temporary retirement at the end of 2001, Reimers devoted himself to various honorary positions. Until November 2014 he headed the Hamburg Police Association and has been its honorary chairman since then. From 2003 to 2007 he was President of the Hamburg Regional Association of the German Red Cross , was elected to the Senate of the German National Foundation in 2003 and worked there on an honorary basis as a managing director from 2004 to 2017. In 2013 he was appointed to the board of the German Society in Berlin. He is also vice president of the Friends of training foreign officers at the Staff College eV
