The Cumba District is located in the Utcubamba Province in the Amazonas region of northern Peru . The district was established on November 14, 1944. It has an area of ​​292.66 km². The 2017 census counted 7,855 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 10,460, in 2007 it was 9070. The administrative center is the 485  m high town of Cumba with 1403 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cumba is located on the right bank of the Río Marañón, almost 32 km southwest of the provincial capital Bagua Grande .

Geographical location

The Cumba District is located in the west of the Utcubamba Province. A mountain range of the Peruvian Central Cordillera crosses the district. The Río Marañón forms the western boundary of the district.

The Cumba district borders in the west on the districts Santo Tomás , Toribio Casanova , Choros (all three in the province Cutervo ) and Jaén ( province Jaén ), in the northeast on the El Milagro and Bagua Grande and in the south on the district Yamón .
