The Ilo district is located in the Ilo province of the Moquegua region in southwest Peru . The district has an area of ​​295.6 km². At the 2017 census, there were 66,479 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 44,903, in 2007 it was 59,132. The district and provincial administrations are located in the city of Ilo . Ilo is located on the Pacific Ocean in the extreme northwest of the district south of the mouth of the Río Ilo (Río Moquegua, Río Osmore). According to the 2017 census, Ilo has a population of 66,118.

Geographical location

The Ilo District extends along the Pacific coast in the south of the Ilo Province. The district has an approximately 37.5 km long coastline and extends about 13 km inland to the western edge of the coastal highlands. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) crosses the district near the coast. The climate is arid, desert vegetation dominates.

The district of Ilo borders in the northwest on the district Pacocha , in the north on the district El Algarrobal and in the east on the district Ite ( province Jorge Basadre , region Tacna ).
