The district of Independencia is located in the province of Pisco in the region of Ica in southwestern Peru . The district founded on October 29, 1942 has an area of 272.34 km². At the 2017 census, there were 12,987 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 8,634, in 2007 12,390. The district administration is located in the 203 m high town of Independencia with 4183 inhabitants (as of 2017). Independencia is located 18 km east of the provincial capital Pisco .
Geographical location
The Independencia District is located in the central north of the Pisco Province. The course of the Río Pisco forms the southern boundary of the district. The district extends over the arid coastal plain and extends in the east to the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera .
The district of Independencia borders on the district of San Clemente to the west, on the north on the district of El Carmen ( province of Chincha ) and on the east and south on the district of Humay .
