The Huancano District (alternative spelling: Huáncano District ) is located in the Pisco Province of the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district founded on October 13, 1900 has an area of 905.14 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1,379 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 2041, in 2007 it was 1758. The district administration is located in the 1019 m high village of Huancano with 458 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huancano is just 65 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Pisco on the south bank of the Río Pisco river .
Geographical location
The Huancano District is located in the far northeast of the Pisco Province. It is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The river Río Pisco forms the district boundary in the northeast and later flows through the district in a west-southwest direction.
The Huancano district borders in the extreme south with the district San José de los Molinos ( province Ica ), in the southwest with the district Humay , in the northwest with the district El Carmen ( province Chincha ), in the north with the district Capillas ( province Castrovirreyna ), to the northeast to the districts of Mollepampa and Ticrapo (both also in the province of Castrovirreyna) and to the east to the districts of Quito-Arma and Huaytará (both in the province of Huaytará ).
